Physical Therapy

  • The treatment of physical dysfunction or injury by the use of therapeutic exercise, manual therapy and the application of modalities, intended to restore or facilitate normal function or development.
  • Acute Injury or Pain

    Pain in the joint, muscles or soft tissue as a result of a motor vehicle accident.

  • Biomechanical Analysis

    Comprehensive evaluation of postural alignment.

  • Overuse Injuries (tendonitis/tendonosis)

    Acute or chronic inflammation of a tendon resulting from increased or repetitive stress.

  • TMJ

    Pain and dysfunction of the tempormandibular joint affecting ones’ability to open /close the mouth as with chewing and eating.

  • Myofascial/Trigger Point Release Therapy

    Trigger points are discrete, focal, hyperirritable spots located in a taut band of skeletal muscle. They produce pain locally and in a referred pattern and often accompany chronic musculoskeletal disorders. Our staff specializes and has over 30 years experience in the treatment and care of these soft tissue disorders. We utilize multiple treatment approaches consisting of ASTM (Gua Sha), Myofascial Release, Active Release Techniques, Strain-Counterstrain and deep tissue massage.

  • ACL Reconstruction

    A surgical procedure performed to replace a completely torn anterior cruciate ligament of the knee.

  • Achilles Tendon Repair

    A surgical procedure performed due to an Achilles tendon rupture (complete tear).

  • Sprains and Strains of all Joints

    A sprain occurs when there is a stretch or tear in one or more ligaments, slightly elastic bands of tissue that keep the bones in place while permitting movement at a joint. A strain is an injury to a tendon or muscle resulting from overuse or trauma. Symptoms include mild-to-severe pain in the affected joint that worsens with movement or application of pressure; swelling, redness, or bruising around the affected joint; and, in severe cases, loss of mobility in the affected joint.

  • Arthritis

    Degenerative changes that occur in the bone or joint.

  • Osteoporosis

    Bone density loss, primarily seen in older females, which makes these females more susceptible to fractures.

  • Patellofemoral Syndrome

    Anterior knee pain that is a result of poor tracking of the patella (knee cap); pain is associated with prolonged sitting and descending stairs.

  • Plantar Fasciitis

    Inflammation and pain of the think tissue at the bottom of the foot; most common symptom is pain with initial few steps in the morning.

  • Total Joint Replacements

    Surgical procedure performed on degenerative joint to help alleviate pain and improve function, commonly seen in the knee, hip and shoulder.

  • Shoulder Dysfunctions

    Pain in the joint, muscles or soft tissue of the shoulder affecting one’s ability to perform daily functional movements. This includes disorders of the rotator cuff.

Hand

  • Hand therapy is the art and science of rehabilitation of the upper quarter of the human body. Hand therapy is a merging of occupational therapy and physical therapy theory and practice that combines comprehensive knowledge of the upper quarter, body function, and activity. Using specialized skills in assessment and treatment, hand therapists promote the goals of prevention of dysfunction, restoration of function, and/or reversal of the progression of pathology in order to enhance participation in life situations for individuals with upper quarter disease or injury.
  • Arthritis of the hand

    A common degenerative problem where the articular surface of a joint becomes worn. This can result in a stiff and painful joint. In the hand the most common areas are the base of the thumb and finger tip joints.

  • Carpal Tunnel syndrome

    A compression of the median nerve that occurs when it is compressed in the region where it crosses the wrist. Symptoms include numbness and weakness in the thumb with pinching activities as well as night pain and tingling in the thumb, index and middle finger.

  • Cubital tunnel syndrome

    Compression of the ulnar nerve at the inside part of the elbow. The nerve is very superficial (also known as the “funny bone”) and can be compressed when the elbow is held in a bent position too long. Symptoms include pain, tingling and numbness in the ring and little finger and decreased grip strength.

  • deQuervain’s tendinitis

    Inflammation of the tendons and/or the tendon sheaths on the thumb side of the wrist. These tendons move the thumb sideways and away from the palm. This painful condition is often caused by repetitive use of the thumb and wrist.

  • Lateral epicondylitis

    Inflammation of the wrist tendons that attach on the outside of the elbow. This is also known as “tennis elbow”. This condition is typically related to overuse or repetitive stress with movements. Symptoms include pain with gripping especially with the elbow in an extended position.

  • Medial epicondylitis

    Also known as “golfer’s elbow”. It is inflammation of the tendons of the forearm and fingers at the inside of the elbow. Also related to gripping and forceful wrist flexion/forearm rotation overuse.

  • Wrist Fractures

    A break in one of the many bones in the wrist. A colles fracture is a break in the radius bone and often occurs with a fall on the outstretched hand.

  • Hand and finger fractures

    A break of one of the 27 bones in the hand. These are common and often occur with a fall, a jammed finger, or a finger getting caught in a door. A boxer’s fracture occurs when someone hits a hard object with a fist and breaks the little finger metacarpal bone.

  • Joint sprains

    An injury to the ligament that surrounds the bone. Ligaments are strong structures which hold bones together. They often occur when the joint is forced/twisted in an unnatural position. Symptoms include pain, swelling and difficulty moving the affected joint.

  • Joint dislocation

    The separation of 2 bones where they meet at the joint. A dislocated bone is no longer in its normal position. It can also cause ligament, nerve and bone injury. Requires medical attention.

  • Wrist pain

    A common complaint that can be caused by sudden trauma to the wrist. It can also be caused by repetitive stress, osteoarthritis and carpal tunnel. Diagnosis of the cause of wrist pain is important to determine so that treatment can accurately address the cause.

  • Skier’s thumb

    An injury to the ulna collateral ligament of the thumb. It is common in sports and with falls.

  • Ganglion Cyst

    Very common lumps (mucous cysts) in the hand and wrist that occur near a joint capsule or tendon sheath. Most common location is top of the wrist (70-80%).

  • Mallet finger

    A deformity of the tip of a finger when the extensor tendon is damaged. It is often caused by a forceful blow to the tip of the finger. The finger is not able to straighten at the tip on its own.

  • Sensory nerve evaluation

    A series of clinical tests a certified hand therapist performs to assess nerve integrity, function and reinnervation. The therapist uses both monofilaments and 2 point discrimination to assess both light touch and fine motor abilities.

  • Scar and edema management

    Therapy interventions that are designed to address the functional deficits in the hand and wrist that are the result of scar tissue formation and swelling. Scar and swelling after an injury often lead to joint stiffness, loss of motion, and decreased functional use of the affected hand or wrist.

  • Desensitization

    Therapy interventions designed to address hypersensitivity and pain caused by a nerve. Most often occurs in the hand or foot due to the amount of sensory nerve fibers to these body parts. The injury may be acute or chronic and often involves a nerve that was compressed, crushed or injured.

  • Sensory reinnervation

    Therapy interventions that assess, treat and address sensory nerve injuries that are beginning to reinnervate or “wake up”. Techniques involve stimulation of various “systems” to facilitate the distal nerve to brain connection as a nerve is healing distally from the site of initial trauma.

Pediatric Orthopedic Physical Therapy

  • The treatment of muscloskeletal pain and dysfunction in children as young as 5 years old.

Pediatric Rehabilitation

  • The treatment of disorders in infants and toddlers such as: torticollis, leg-calve-perthes disease, developmental delays, hip dysplasia, hypotonia and hypertonia, club feet, idiopathic toe walkers, scoliosis, post-operative conditions (including cancer), and all orthopedic conditions.

Industrial Rehabilitation

  • Functional Capacity Evaluation

    Comprehensive battery of performance based tests that is used commonly to determine ability for work, activities of daily living, or leisure activities.

  • Work Hardening Program

    Work hardening is a highly structured, goal oriented, individualized treatment program designed to maximize the person's ability to return to work. Work hardening programs are multidisciplinary in nature with the capability of addressing the functional, physical, behavioral, and vocational needs of the person served. Work hardening provides a transition between the initial injury management and return to work, while addressing the issues of productivity, safety, physical tolerance, and work behavior. Work hardening programs use real or simulated work conditions in a relevant work environment in conjunction with physical conditioning tasks if necessary.

  • Ergonomic Assessments

    Is a physical therapist's or other specialist's evaluation of a workplace and its furnishings, tools, and tasks in relation to the physical abilities of the worker. It is also known as work activities evaluation and treatment.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

  • Vertigo

    Lasting less than 2 minutes provoked by moving the head into a certain position; balance deficits may accompany vertigo, frequently balance disorders outlast brief vertigo.

  • BPPV (Benign Proxysmal Positional Vertigo)

    Acute onset of vertigo and nystagmus; 'benign' indicates not malignant; 'parosyxmal' means a sudden onset of a symptom; 'positional' denotes head position as the provoking stimulus; 'vertigo' is an illusion of movement.

Geriatric Physical Therapy

  • The treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction in older adults, including gait, balance and functional training in order to return the individual to their daily activities of living.

ASTYM

  • A soft tissue mobilization technique used to effectively treat soft tissue restriction and scarring; this technique uses special ergonomically designed instruments to effectively treat the affected areas associated with tendonosis and tendinitis.

Gua Sha

  • A soft tissue mobilization technique that uses specialized instruments to help treat soft tissue and scar tissue restrictions.

Orthotics

  • Custom-fit arch supports designed to improve foot and lower extremity alignment; commonly used with posterior tibialis tendonitis, flat feet, high arches or plantar fasciitis.

Triton DTS Traction

  • Mechanical decompression used on both the neck and low back to help alleviate pain often associated with nerve compression or disc involvement.

Women’s Health

  • Pre/postnatal Care

    Helping new moms to maintain the strength, endurance, and flexibility needed as they prepare for and then care for their new baby.

  • Pregnancy Back Pain

    Instruction in proper stretching and stabilization exercises to assist in decreasing the stress on the lower back as your body changes throughout pregnancy with use of hands-on treatment to decrease pain and alleviate symptoms of back pain.

  • Postural Education (pre/postnatal)

    Assistance in proper postures for breast feeding, holding, carrying and lifting your child and all their equipment, to decrease the strain on your back and neck as well as help restore strength to the muscles that stabilization the spine. Hands-on treatment will help to stretch tight muscles and ease pain associated with poor posture.

  • Osteoporosis

    Instruction in correct and safe exercises to improve balance, strength and function in order to decrease the occurrence of falls. Manual therapy will decrease pain and relieve tightness. Education in postural exercises and instruction in exercises you can perform safely at home.

McKenzie Back Program

  • A specific treatment approach to low back pain which has been found to be very effective in treating disc disorders.

Postural Restoration

  • The utilization of integrated manual and non-manual techniques to restore position and tone of a common pattern seen in all humans. We believe the key to injury prevention and treatment is restoration of faulty movement strategies and muscular imbalances. When imbalance occurs in the body; joints, bones and muscles are affected resulting in pain and dysfunction.

This program follows systematic progression of exercises that range from basic balance and movement skills to advanced running, sprinting and multi-directional training.

  • High Speed Treadmill Training

    This program uses ‘super-treadmills’ to help athletes of all levels increase sprint speed, anaerobic and aerobic endurance and improve sprint mechanics.

  • Biomechanical Analysis of Baseball Throwing & Golf

    Our facility has certified specialists trained to assess the full body biomechanics seen in golf and baseball and prescribe specific corrective exercises to improve your game. Our staff works with the Arizona Diamondbacks and has training under the Titleist Performance Institute.

  • Baseball Conditioning

    A program designed to strengthen the muscles and movement patterns necessary to increase throwing velocity, distance and hitting power.

Running Groups

Massage Therapy

Athletic Training Event Coverage
