Michael Basten, PT, MTC, ATC, CSCS
PT, MTC, ATC, CSCS
Ahwatukee

Since arriving in the Phoenix Valley in 1989, Mike has worked in a variety of physical therapy settings. While he specializes in orthopedic and sport related injuries, Mike has vast experience caring for patients with a wide range of injuries and he has the skill to use a mix of modalities to ensure patients get better. Mike’s expertise in “hands on” manual therapy along with his certifications as a manual therapist (MTC), athletic trainer (ATC), and as a strength and conditioning specialist (CSCS), expedites his patient’s return to their sport/activity safely.

Mike is the founder and owner of Foothills Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and currently has 11 physical therapy clinics located in and around the Phoenix, Arizona region. Foothills Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation offers complete physical therapy services including PT for acute and chronic injuries/pain, auto injuries, pre and post surgical rehabilitation and functional rehabilitation for work and sports related injures.

Previously, Mike was Director of Sports Medicine for St. Joseph’s Center for Sports Medicine. His experience includes working as team physical therapist for the Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB), the Phoenix Roadrunner’s Hockey Team (IHL), Arizona Sandshark’s Indoor Soccer Team, Phoenix Cobra’s (Roller Hockey Team), and Phoenix Mustang’s Hockey Team (WCHL). His experience also includes working two years as the team physical therapist for Arizona State University, which included 24 different sports teams.

During an educational internship at the American Sports Medicine Institute and The University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, Mike was responsible for the evaluation and treatment of the Orlando Thunder Football Team (World Football League). His football experience also includes working with the Arizona Cardinals from 1990 to 1992.

Mike understands the needs of his patients and their return to their activity/sport as well as the biomechanics involved. His functional approach to rehabilitation, hands on techniques, and time spent with his patient’s sets him apart from other therapists. Mike’s goal for all patients is to return them to pre-injury status and, through other wellness/fitness services offered at Foothills Sports Medicine, give patients the support and knowledge they need to achieve a healthy active lifestyle.

On a personal level, Mike enjoys spending time with his family and is involved with biking, running, golfing and playing recreational hockey. Mike is also currently pursuing his doctorate in Physical Therapy.
